We are pleased to announce the VII edition of In-ruins, returning to Basilicata for the second time in September 2026, after the 2024 experience in Metaponto and Matera. This year, the project docks in the Vulture-Melfese, between Venosa and Melfi, in the province of Potenza, continuing its research journey through the archaeological landscapes of Southern Italy.
A millennial crossroads structured around the river axis of the Ofanto-Sele – connector between the Adriatic and the Apennine worlds – this territory has linked since antiquity the coastal Daunia to the east, the Ionian coast to the south following the Bradano valley, and the Tyrrhenian shore to the west. After Sibari, Metaponto and Canosa di Puglia, In-ruins returns to Lucania retracing this ancient triangulation.
The 2026 residency unfolds across two profoundly interconnected archaeological realities, through the strategic collaboration with the Museums and Archaeological Parks of Melfi and Venosa, the partnership with the Municipality of Venosa - which will host the residents at the Convento della Madonna delle Grazie -, the patronage of the Municipality of Melfi, and the collaboration with Fondazione Elpis, partner of the project since 2023. The international academic synergy with AHA Network (Archaeology-Heritage-Art Network) at UCL is also renewed.
In-ruins residency 2026 is directed by Nicola Guastamacchia with curatorship by Nicola Nitido.
Design: Donato Loforese
