The open call is open to artists, researchers, curators, writers and cultural practitioners working across disciplines. Applicants from all countries and at all stages of their careers are welcome to apply.

Can duos or collectives apply?

Yes, In-ruins welcomes applications from both individual practitioners and collaborative duos or collectives. Please note that the conditions set out in this call apply on a per-individual basis, and accommodation and working arrangements are planned accordingly. We encourage applications from pre-existing practices rather than collaborations formed specifically for the purpose of applying.

Can I apply if I am not an artist?

Yes. In-ruins welcomes practitioners from different disciplines whose work engages with questions related to heritage, archaeology, landscape, memory, communities or place-based research.

Can I apply if I am still a student?

Accepted Answer

Yes. There are no formal educational requirements. Applications are assessed on the quality and relevance of the proposed research rather than academic qualifications.

Do I need previous residency experience?

No. Previous residency experience is not required.

Can I submit more than one proposal?

No. Each applicant may submit one proposal per open call.

No. Once submitted, applications cannot be modified. Please review all materials carefully before applying.

No. We are primarily interested in research questions, directions of enquiry and methodologies rather than fully developed projects. Applicants are encouraged to submit proposals that leave room for discovery, adaptation and dialogue with the residency context.
